Paid obituary for Tuesday July 6, 2004 The State AC02 Aiken Standard A Memorial Service for Mrs. Mercadeese Lynn Austin will be held on Wednesday July 7, 2004 at 2:00pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Aiken with Rev. Bob Snyder officiating. Interment will take place at St. Peter?s Cemetery, Lexington. Memorial donations in her memory may be directed to the charity of one?s choice. George Funeral Homes Historic Downtown Chapel 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Austin, 89, of Aiken died Sunday July 4th at Mattie C. Hall Health Care Center, Aiken. Born in Lexington, SC, daughter of the late James Wesley and Hannah Elizabeth George Lindler. A 1934 Graduate of USC, she had taught school in Williston before moving to Aiken in the 1940?s. She then worked in the law offices of Toole & Toole for several years and began buying, fixing and re-selling properties in the Aiken area, something very unusual for a woman in those days. Mercadeese traveled extensively with her family, allowing them to see different parts of the world. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and was also involved with countless civic and recreational organizations. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her husband; Arthur Lee Austin, two brothers; Frank Lindler and George B. Lindler and a sister; Gwendolyn Broughton. She is survived by two daughters; Theda Austin, Aiken and Debbie Gilly, Gilbert, three grand daughters; Michelle Clark, Heather and Margaret Goulding and one great-grand daughter; Alexis Clark.
