30 years ago I was blessed to meet the love of my life during a flight from Mexico City to Amsterdam. He looked like he just jump off a polo horse which he soon told me that was literally the case. He just did a polo tournament and was on his way home to London where he worked and lived. During the flight we exchanged glimpses and we both felt this flutter in our stomachs we later admitted to one another. When we the crew got off the plane, he was waiting for me at the gate. He asked me if I could show him where the business center was bc he had a connecting flight to London. Ofcourse he knew but was a good way to start a conversation. I saw him looking at my name tag and he asked me where I lived. Little did I know that during the time I had to travel home he had called 11 people in Amsterdam with my same last name ! Talking about being thorough and insistent and creative and passionate!! That is Alex for you! So I got home and I got a phone call… “This is your favorite passenger speaking from flight KL ### !
I was stunned! How did he find me? He also told me he wrote me a letter and put it in my mailbox !! Again I was asking but how did you know my nr??? Well , as friendly and charming and good looking as he is, he happened to go to the crew station, waited for someone to find who knew me and guess what? He spoke to my best friend !! Who immediately gave him my mailbox nr bc she was thinking ; this guy is for Marie-Louise! She was so right!! To cut a long story short; we dated for 2,5 yrs , visiting one another either in Amsterdam or in London until we tied the knot! We lived in The Netherlands for a bit until our son was born, we moved to Moscow where he got a bankers job and stayed there for 2 years. When we were pregnant with our daughter Sophia , he made my dream come true by buying a house in the south of France! Our most beautiful phase. We had it all and we were soooo happy.. Unfortunately our son was diagnosed with autism and PDD and we decided to move to USA to get the best help. That was during the period of 911 so banker jobs were nowhere to be found. He decided to become a realtor in Greenwich CT where he had kept his gorgeous home for 20 years and rented it out. We were so happy with the progress Alexander (Sacha) made and delighted with our third baby “Lucy”.
Times were tough during the 2008 crash so we decided to move down south with the family. The reason we ended up in Aiken SC is bc it answered the question I asked him what his dream was… He wanted to play polo again and own a polo farm. I wanted to do something in hospitality so we were looking for the perfect place to make our dreams happen. That became our Farmfield Plantation farm where we had many happy years with lots of renters and polo players on our own field!!!Dreams do come true!!
It goes without saying that this story is telling how ambitious, courageous and determined Alex was!! He was my rock and I looked up at him. Always so handy with everything and helpful to his many clients. We lived through so many of our children’s milestones together and even after we decided to go our own ways we managed to keep it friendly and have family celebrations as a family. Forever grateful we spend our last Christmas as a family in Aiken during his illness. I will miss him tremendously but will see him in my three children every time I look at them.

My very first encounter with Alex was in 2010 when my late husband, Ken Peacock and I were searching for a realtor to find us a home in Aiken, SC. I was overwhelmed at Alex’s vast talents and resume with so many higher profile clients! We chose another realtor we thought would better suit our needs. But, go figure! Alex said, if not once, but several times, to ALWAYS reach out to him for anything once we were here. Well, we did! And Ken and I became good friends with Alex. And, enjoyed the wonderful conversations and hospitality of his lovely wife!!!! Alex’s passion extended far beyond those of a builder, contractor, or realtor as we quickly found out. His passion, at least in our eyes, was someone that lived, thrived, and was energized by helping others. It could be to send them contacts when a well pump was out. Or it was to see the delight in helping people realize the vision and fulfillment of a dream home or farm. His talents, compassion, and ideas are so far reaching, that I do not have words to properly convey them to you. All I know is that the icon and legacy of Alex will live on, And as I write my thoughts here with tears dropping onto my Barbour wax coat, Aiken, as I know it will not be the same. I will surely miss you Alex!
