Obituary of Jo Ann Tripp

Jo Ann McCleskey Tripp, age 80, loving wife of 58 years to the late Lowell Eugene Tripp and daughter of the late Ollie H. McCleskey, Jr. and Helen B. (Lona) Markatine McCleskey passed away in the early morning hours of October 2nd, 2024 at Barclay House of Aiken.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Christopher Knoble of Bethlehem, PA, and son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Julie Tripp of Huntersville, NC; grandchildren, Sarah Knoble, Addison Tripp, Avery Tripp, and Alaina Tripp; and, by her brother and sister-in-law Robert L. and Patricia B. McCleskey of Mifflin, PA.

Jo Ann was born in Monongahela, PA, on November 20th, 1943.  She attended Robert Morris College in Pittsburgh, PA, and worked at U.S. Steel Corp. in Homestead, PA.  In 1968, Jo Ann and Lowell moved to Rockville, MD, where she worked for U.S. Steel in Washington, DC.  In 1979, they moved to Valley Forge, PA, where they raised Lisa and Brian.  In Valley Forge, Jo Ann worked for Alco Standard Corp. as their Fleet Administrator and was responsible for over 2,000 cars and trucks in the fleet.  She also served as President of the Picket Post Swim and Tennis Club. 

Lowell & Jo Ann moved to Aiken, SC in 1991 & JoAnn worked at the Woodside Plantation Property Owner’s Assoc. for 10 years.  She volunteered with the Woodside Ladies Golf Association, was on the Executive Board of the Woodside Plantation Country Club, served as treasurer of the CSRA Golf Board, served as the treasurer of the Women of Woodside, and served as the treasurer of the Aiken Women’s Heart Board.

A memorial service will be held at The Historic George Funeral Home Downtown Chapel in Aiken, SC, on Saturday, October 26th, 2024, at 2:00 pm, officiated by Rev. Butch Blackwell. Before the service, visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at The Historic George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave., SW, Aiken, SC 29801. 

Memorials in her honor may be made to the American Heart Association through the Aiken Women’s Heart Board, P. O. Box 5211, Aiken, SC  29804, or the American Cancer Society.
