Larry Hamm and I met for the first time on a presentation I gave for modeling the hydrodynamics of the H2 evaporator at SRNL using FEM. Larry had many questions and I only remembered later that there was a guy asking difficult questions. Some 10+ years later we met on a facility modeling demonstration project and worked together but I did not remember I had met Larry before. He did remember me though. For several years we worked on a validation of off-gas modeling which led me to admire and enjoy Larry’s collaboration. Larry was particularly good at presenting technical content and creating content. He was knowledgeable and crafted his presentations with care, and I came to enjoy being involved in his talks, and looking forward to meet/work with him. He had a team player attitude and supported those around him. Larry enjoyed chemical engineering work and he was very good at it. I will miss him.

Larry worked for me for several years at SRNL on reactor safety. Larry was brilliant and extremely hard working, always producing top notch analyses. He took on development projects that were considered by some managers to be too ambitious but always succeeded, which earned him the respect of reviewers and engineers at other national laboratories such as Los Alamos National Laboratory. Larry had a wry sense of humor which helped us handle the stress of constant external reviews of our efforts to justify restart of the SRS production reactors. I will always remember and respect Larry Hamm.

I feel honored to have had the opportunity to meet Larry this year. He was such an inspiration during his battle with cancer. He never gave up and fought to the end. He maintained strength and dignity through out his illness. His concern focused on his wife and daughter. Rest in peace Larry.

Larry and I worked closely together on many projects at SRNL for over a decade. His commitment to rigorous technical solutions to difficult problems is legendary. While Larry was very passionate about the work he also had a keen sense of humor that endeared him to everyone around him. I spent time with Larry outside of work and on numerous occasions visited with him while he was making renovations to his early 1900's home on Carolina Avenue in N. Augusta. There are so many memories that I or any of his friends could share that it would fill up pages. Suffice it to say that he was well loved by those of us who knew him best and will be sorely missed by all! My thoughts and prayers go out to all his family.

Larry was a friend and colleague during 30 years of work at the Savannah River National Laboratory. He will be missed by me and many. Larry was a fighter and even after his diagnosis he continued to work with great energy at the surprise of all. Fortunately, he had time to put things in order. I will pray for his soul and his family. Larry - Thanks for a great friendship, Mark Robert Duignan
