John Mettle Jr., a beloved husband, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 20th, 2024, at the age of 77.
Born on Sunday, September 21st, 1947, in Baltimore, Maryland, John was the son of the late John & Margaret Smith Mettle, Sr.
John proudly served his country in the Army, a testament to his enduring strength and dedication. After his service, he devoted his professional life to repairing ATM machine printers, where his meticulous attention to detail was both recognized and valued.
A man of many passions, John was renowned for his love of music, particularly the guitar. His extensive collection of guitars and his original musical compositions leave a lasting legacy that his family and friends cherished deeply. Even during his final days, John found solace and joy in music, entertaining the nursing staff and fellow patients with his acoustic guitar, lovingly brought to him by his wife.
John is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Barbara Ann Glatzel Mettle, who stood by his side through all of life's trials and joys. He also leaves behind his brother and sister-in-law, Guy & Ellie Mettle, Sr.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Sandra & Lou Alcarese & Christine Mettle, along with a community of friends and neighbors who mourn his loss.
John cherished the companionship of animals, especially horses, dogs, and cats. He was a staunch supporter of animal welfare, and his family kindly requests that donations be made in his honor to the Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare, 199 Willow Run Dr., Aiken, SC 29801.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects and celebrate John's life at a Celebration of Life on Thursday, December 5th, 2024, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at The Historic George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, located at 211 Park Ave SW, Aiken, SC 29801.
